This RR spike knife is the 3rd such knife I have made. The design is the most refined of the 3 as experience seems to increase quality. The handle has 3-1/4 twists and I forged the blade close to the final shape then used a belt sander to finish it. To anyone who is interested in forging these knives I offer these tips, forge the blade before twisting the handle, quench the blade in the most aggressive quench you can create, and do not bother tempering the blade as the hardness of the steel is not so intense as to have a brittle blade. RR Spike knives are an excellent learning tool for begriming Bladesmith because they are unique in themselves and can be taken as far as your imagination allows.
